Tattoo Reviews & Stories — real experiences, designs, and moments from Hongdae.

I Didn’t Plan to Get Tattooed in Seoul. Then I Found YM.

I Was Just Exploring Hongdae

I wasn’t looking for a tattoo studio. I was looking for coffee, vinyl shops, late-night food.

But Hongdae has this way of pulling you into places you didn’t plan to enter.

That’s how I ended up inside YM.

A Stamp That Felt Like a Memory

The first design I saw looked like a tiny postage stamp.

Framed neatly, soft red sun, the word “안녕” sitting quietly inside.

It didn’t feel decorative. It felt archived.

Fine Lines That Actually Breathe

There was a branch drawn so lightly it almost disappeared into the skin.

Back home, fine line often feels trendy. Here, it felt intentional.

Like the artist understood silence.

Korean Motifs Without Imitation

The crane design stopped me. Balanced, deliberate, almost ceremonial.

It wasn’t trying to look Korean. It simply was.

Anime That Felt Human

The anime portrait surprised me most. It didn’t look flat or commercial.

There was softness in the shading, something fragile in the eyes.

It felt personal.

Minimal But Not Empty

A small botanical wrap around the wrist looked effortless.

The lines were clean, but not cold. Precise, but not mechanical.

That balance stayed with me.

Tattoos That Talk to Each Other

I saw florals placed beneath an existing mandala sleeve.

They didn’t compete. They blended.

Like they had always been meant to be there.

It Felt Like a Chapter, Not a Souvenir

I didn’t expect to remember a tattoo studio more than a restaurant.

But here I am, back home, still thinking about that room in Hongdae.

If you’re traveling and thinking maybe, go inside.

It won’t feel like a souvenir.

It will feel like a chapter.
